Bitcoin basics: risks and mechanics

Beyond the price of a bitcoin.

Understand a cryptoasset’s network, custody, liquidity and risks before thinking about its price. Trading around the clock does not make it safe.

Separate the asset from the service

A blockchain network, a cryptoasset, an exchange and a wallet are different things. An exchange account exposes you to the platform’s operational and financial risks. Holding keys yourself changes those risks and makes recovery your responsibility.

Custody comes with consequences

Private keys authorize transactions. Losing access can mean losing the ability to use the assets, while sharing a recovery phrase can allow theft. Montara does not request keys or recovery phrases and does not connect wallets in this release.

Learn the risks before the vocabulary

Crypto prices can be highly volatile. Liquidity, fraud, technical flaws, regulatory changes and platform failures can affect outcomes. Yield claims need scrutiny, and a familiar brand or token symbol is not proof of safety. Rules and protections differ by jurisdiction.

Try the idea

A $100 position declines in equal steps. A 50% loss needs a 100% gain to recover. This is loss arithmetic, not a Bitcoin price series.
