How to read market cues
Read the signals. Keep the perspective.
Market cues offer context, not certainty. A move in oil, currencies or crypto can have different implications across sectors and countries.
Follow the economic channel
An oil increase may help a producer while raising costs for an airline. A stronger currency can make imports cheaper while reducing the local-currency value of foreign earnings. Index-level effects depend on the businesses included and the economic setting.
Check the clock before the chart
A daily reference rate is not a live executable quote. Publication time and observation time can differ. Combining a Friday equity close with a Sunday crypto move requires an explicit forecast cutoff; using later information in a backtest creates look-ahead bias.
A relationship is not a reliable prediction
Crypto trades through weekends, but that does not make it a dependable leading indicator for Monday stocks. Both may respond to shared news, or move for unrelated reasons. Test whether a crypto feature improves forecasts on unseen periods compared with a simpler baseline.
Try the idea
A fixed $100 import costs more domestic currency if the domestic-currency price of one dollar rises. Other prices, hedges and margins are held constant.
